Would you like to experience Athens on a budget? Then, this half-day program is for you! It is specially designed for cruisers who have either been to the capital before or prefer to explore the attractions at their own pace like a true insider!
Your tour starts from the port of Piraeus. As you gaze at the picturesque ports of Microlimano and Kastella, you will be provided with all the historical and cultural background of the area along the way. After a 30-minute drive, you will arrive in Athens, the cradle of western civilization.
Continue the city tour through the busy streets of Panepistimiou and Stadiou. A stop at the Panathenaic Stadium to see where the first Olympic Games were held is a must. Continue to the highest hill in Athens, Lycabettus, with its great views of the city from the observatory and the chapel of Saint George. Carry on past the Parliament House, the Catholic Cathedral and the Athenian Trilogy consisted of the Academy, the Library and the University of Law, the Arch of Hadrian, the temple of Olympic Zeus and stop at the Syntagma Square to witness the Changing of the Presidential Guards.
You will be dropped off at the vibrant pedestrian street of Dionysiou Aeropagitou, just a breath away from the archeological site. You will be given instructions on how to get to Plaka or the Acropolis hill or the New Acropolis museum.
Walk up the hill to the Acropolis and become amazed by the awe-aspiring grandeur of the Parthenon and the Erechtheion Temple. The view of Athens and its 7 hills is breathtaking.
After you explore the monuments on your own, you will be able to enjoy some free time in the district of Plaka - as the name itself reveals, "the old". It is the most beautiful district of the historical center, which is located nearby and ideal for shopping and tasting the local cuisine.
After you assemble at the designated meeting point, your guide will make sure that everyone is on the bus and then will escort you back to the port of Piraeus.
